Haugland Consulting can provide a variety of educational services to meet the needs of students with disabilities. We provide services to students with Autism, Down syndrome, ADD/ADHD and Learning Disabilities as well as any other disability under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Dr. Haugland and his staff have experience and training in working with almost every disability category and can offer parents individualized assistance based on the needs of their student.

1. IEP Assistance

If you have a child with a disability, he or she should be eligible for services under IDEA. As part of this legislation, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) should be developed for your child. This plan should outline educational goals as well as services to be provided. Many parents find this process overwhelming and have questions about their child’s rights and the different services they can expect for their child.

Haugland Consulting can offer assistance to parents who would like an independent educator to assess their child’s needs and someone to participate in the IEP process. Haugland Consulting staff will work with the parents and the school district in order to ensure that the child receives the appropriate services. Sometimes communication between the parents and the school district can become difficult and having someone there who is knowledgeable about IDEA and the student’s rights can prevent many problems from occurring.

2. Home Educational Programs

ABA Programs for students with Autism

Children with Autism typically require intensive training in many areas of functioning. The most effective treatment for children with autism has been an intervention based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This type of intervention is often referred to as ABA-therapy or Discrete Trial Training (DTT). The intervention consists of intensive one-on-one teaching of skills to the child, typically in the child’s home. Traditionally 40 hours or more per week is recommended for maximum benefit, but should be adjusted to each child according to skill level and individual needs. Please inquire for more detailed information.

Educational Programming

Dr. Morten Haugland and his staff have specialized training in teaching children with a variety of disabilities. Instructional methods could include Direct Instruction, Fluency Based instruction and on-line educational programs individualized for each student. We have specialized programs available to improve reading, writing and math skills for any student. Programs will be developed to meet the needs of your child in accordance with your child’s IEP. Students with Autism may have these services paid through the Autism Scholarship Program.

Home Schooling Assistance

Haugland Consulting staff can assist with those who home-school their child. We can assist with selection of educational material, provide additional instructional programs and oversee the education of your child. We have experienced educators available to assist with any and all aspects of your child’s education. We can also provide tutors to serve your child

3. Consultation Services

Behavioral Consultation

Dr. Haugland and his staff are experienced in dealing with problem behaviors. We can assist you and your family with developing a behavioral plan that will work. Some suggestions may include establishing a token economy or developing a behavioral contract between you and your child. If the behaviors are severe, a more aversive intervention may be warranted. The focus of these consultations is to give you as a parent the tools you need to be successful in handling difficult behaviors.
